This weblog is named for Port Chester's previous
identity as The Sawpits — which was known for the saw-mill
and ship building factory once located at the mouth of the Byram
River. The name Port Chester was adopted in 1837, and in 1868,
it was incorporated as a village within the Town of Rye.
